I’m a novice.  Where do I start?

If you are a new beginner, we suggest starting with our New Beginner Series, Qigong or Mat Pilates (Basics) classes. These classes emphasize basic principles and introduce movements that create the foundation of a good practice.

Our New Beginner Series is designed specifically to introduce Anusara® Universal Principles of Alignment, basic yoga poses, breathing and relaxation techniques in a safe and nurturing environment.  Get the basics, feel stronger and more alive.  New classes start every 6 weeks.

Our Mat Pilates (Basics) class is structured to gradually build your strength, stamina and skill, so you can safely tone and develop stronger core muscles.  You will get the basics of mat Pilates technique and feel taller, stronger and straighter.

More experienced or returning from a break?

If you are currently practicing yoga or pilates, or are returning to practice after a break, we request that you listen deeply to your body and honor your skill level.  If you are recovering from injury or illness, are pregnant or desire a slower pace, try a Gentle class.  Beginning classes will provide you with a firm grounding in yoga basics, and Intermediate classes will prepare you for more advanced yoga poses.

For students looking for more rigor, we suggest exploring the Advanced Yoga classes.  Advanced yoga helps build strength and endurance, and will take your yoga to the next level.

Can I try a class and see if I like it, before I sign-up?

Yes, absolutely.  There are several opportunities for you to try yoga with little or no financial commitment.

1.  Free Introductory Classes Several times a session, we offer selected introductory and new classes free for students new to Quantum, or students returning to Quantum Yoga after a long break.

What type of Yoga do you teach?

Most of our teachers practice and teach Anusara Yoga®.  However, many have come to study Anusara from various backgrounds that influence that teacher’s unique style and presentation of yoga.  Occasionally, we will offer special classes in other styles of yoga, or fusions of yoga with other disciplines.

Anusara® (a-nu-sar-a), means “flowing with Grace,” “going with the flow,” “following your heart”.  Anusara Yoga is a powerful form of Hatha Yoga founded by John Friend in 1997, that unifies a Tantric philosophy of intrinsic Goodness with Universal Principles of Alignment™.  Currently, Anusara Yoga® is one of the most popular and fastest growing yoga styles in the world, due in large part, to its uplifting philosophy, epitomized by a "celebration of the heart," that looks for the good in all people and all things.

What is proper yoga class etiquette?

1. Eating a meal less than 2 hours before class is not recommended.  However, a light snack such as yogurt or fruit may provide you with needed energy.

2. Please arrive on time or early to class, so you can settle in and be present for your practice.

3. Hydrate adequately before and after class. Filtered and bottled water is available in the studio lobby.

4. Please remove your shoes before entering the studio.

5. Please inform your instructor about injuries, pregnancy or concerns you may have before class, so they may help you safely and appropriately modify poses.

6. Wear comfortable, loose clothing to permit unrestricted freedom of movement.

7. Mats are currently provided, and we strongly recommend that students purchase their own.

8. Please avoid wearing heavy perfumes, essential oils or lotions (especially on hands and feet) to class.

9. Please turn off your cell phones and beepers in class.

10. Although changing rooms are available, it is recommended that during class, you keep your valuables with you in the studio for your protection.

How often should I practice?

It is important to find a frequency of practice that suits your lifestyle and that you can reasonably maintain. In the beginning, you may want to start with taking one or two class per week.   We recommend taking 2 classes per week, if you can.  We’ve found that people who come more frequently when they are just learning, get it into their bodies faster, are more confident and experience the benefits faster.

You will also want to begin a regular home practice.  To start, dedicate a minimum of 10-30 minutes per day to practicing what you can remember from your class. As you develop in your studies you may want to increase the number of classes, and both deepen and lengthen your home practice.  Most of all, enjoy your practice!
